Frequently Asked Questions
What if I need an Induction?
If you decide to be induced in a hospital, I will support you every step of the way! Inductions can often last 2-5 days. I can come to check on you when the induction is started if you would like. I will then step out to give you time to settle in and will return intermittently or as desired throughout the length of the induction.
How do work with backup doulas?
I compensate another doula to serve as backup for me for every birth I agree to attend. I give you the opportunity to meet the backup doula during one of our prenatal sessions together to ask them any questions you may have. I call backup doulas for support in the unlikely event that I am unable to attend your birth (family emergencies, unforeseen circumstances, etc). You have the right to refuse the backup doula, but this will not change any payments due for birth services.
Do you replace my birth partner?
No, I do not replace your birth/support persons. You can think of me like an amplifying speaker; I help to make louder and more supportive what your birth partner is already doing. I support both you and your birth companions and I see us as working as a team to welcome your baby here.
Will you advocate for me in the hospital?
I believe that you are your first best advocate. While I cannot directly speak on your behalf to the birth team, I can provide advocacy tools (like the worksheets below!) to practice effective communication in birth. I can also provide support to your birth partner(s) to help you advocate for what is best for your family.
What kinds of tools do you use?
I offer various tools to help you manage pain and discomfort in labor. Some of these tools include: guided breathwork, visualizations, and meditations. As well as: soothing touch (foot, head, hand, back rubs), birth positions, hot/cold compress, and movement support.
